October Dumpster Dive Results

For the month of October, we had a very special dumpster dive for the "Waste Stream Audit" that is required for our LEED for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) re-certification. Bentley Prince Street is the first mill in the country to receive LEED-EB Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Thirty associates volunteered to help sort through all of the dumpsters at the mill by different waste types and pull out any recyclables. In total, we sorted through 2,025 lbs - about one ton - of waste! Our dedicated dumpster divers worked for four hours and in all that time, they found less than 1% of recyclables in the dumpsters. Usually the average dumpster dive yields between three and four percent of recyclables. These tremendous results reflect the commitment and continuous effort of Bentley Prince Street associates to divert waste from our local landfills and move closer toward our Mission Zero promise to eliminate any negative impact that we may have on the environment by the year 2020.
